🌲 Emerald Green Arborvitae
Cold-hardy, yes, but Hudson Valley deer strip arborvitae to brown sticks every winter. The hedge never makes it to privacy height.

🌺 Crape Myrtle
The zone 7 flowering tree from a Southern tour, a Highlands winter kills it to the ground, and usually altogether.

🌼 Confederate Jasmine (Star Jasmine)
A zone 8 evergreen vine with no chance in a zone 6 January, there's no wall at West Point warm enough.

🌿 Rosemary
Hardy only to zone 7, it dies outdoors by New Year's. Grow it in a pot and winter it on a windowsill.
